What the hell has happen to Stone Mountain. I went thru town yesterday and everything is either for rent, rundown or closed.
I remember when Stone Mountain was like Mayberry. Now it looks like Mayberrry on crack.
It has been awhile since the class of 78 had a reunion. Does anyone know if we are going to have one?
In the old day all we needed was a keg and a field. How I miss the old Hitstocks and late night at Denny's.
Well, I need a drink. Party on!!
Mike Owens, Greg Bachman, Barry McNicols, Rusty Day, David Fuller, David Newhouse, Bill Spurling, Ty Martin, Jerry walker, Steve Blaisdale, I still remember you guys and more.

Hey Roger, don't know if you remember me, Larry Church, but I'm still around. Haven't been through the old town for awhile, but I can imagine how it has gone down hill. I remember going to the old pharmacy for ice cream and the night the old folks home on the hill across the street from it went up in flames. I lived on West Mountain and was awakened by the sirens and rode my bike up to see what was going on. The whole thing was in flames and when it was over there was nothing left. Haven't thought of that in years.

I remember you Larry. How is everything going. Mike Owens mom was in the hospital the last couple of weeks so I came down to see her. Do you remember Mike (possum). Mike still lives in Stone Mountain near the where Henson Amoco was at Harriston and Rockbridge. He is as crazy as ever.
I took my little girl around the town and showed her where we had senior burnouts at the old school, haneys department store, the jail where we would talk the the prisoners through the bars, where Gastons barber shop was near the ball fields, and the city pool.
I hope to return to Stone Mountain again after I get my conceal carry permit so I can get out of my truck.
Take it easy Larry and spread the wealth.
Roger

Yeah, I remember Mike (forgot about the Possum nickname, though). Where are you living now? I have orbited all around the Atlanta area and am living in Winder now and believe it or not, I have been teaching 7th grade social studies for the last 15 years. What have you been doing? Have you heard anything about Richard Phancook or the Cown brothers or Terry Patterson?

I got an engineering degree from Tech and traveled all over for a few years. I met my wife in Mexico while working there. Worked as a plant Engineer in Texas for awhile before moving to TN. I now own some Mexican Restaurants and live in Fayetteville, TN. Just over the border north of Huntsville Al. Ever get bored and need a break come on up and we will put some down. The name of the Restaurant is La Fuente. As for Terry I have not heard anything. He never came to any of the reunions. I think he has an accounting degree from GA. State. Richard had his own business in the 80's doing carpentry work. He was living with Mike Owens for awhile probably 8 or 9 years ago. As for the Tony and Steve Cown I have no Idea. I believe where they use to live off of 78 is now a golf course in Smokerise.
So, Have you kept up with anyone? Do you have a family? I have two little tax deductions girl 9 and boy 12. Refresh my memory as to where Winder is.

I'm not surprised that people didn't show up for the reunions. I never heard about any of them. That's great about the Mexican restaurants. Must be much more fun that being a plant engineer. I never had kids, but I have two wonderful step-daughters thanks to my second wife, Donna. She and I were married on the beach in Destin almost two years ago and are having a great time. Winder is out 316 heading towards Athens and no, I have not kept up with any of the old guys I'm sorry to say. Everybody seemed to scatter off to college, etc. and I lost track. I would like to find out what became of Tony and Steve. They were good guys. I guess you heard about Mack Anderson. I didn't find out until I saw it here.
Anyway, It sounds like you have it going on. Congratulations on La Fuente and if I am ever in Fayetteville, I will stop in for a Dos Equis and an enchillada. If you hear anything new, just shoot me a private message here. I check it every so often. Take care.

Roger.....I don't know what the hell has happend to Stone Mountain, my dad still lives down on Rockbridge and he can't seem to go, just think if I were in high school today, I'd be going to Stephenson.....damn. Guess who stopped by his house the other day and talked for 3 hours?......John Hit...still living down on Greenhaven on that 16 acres, dad was quite surprised and said it was good to talk to John "Stickman". His brother Jerry was in my class.....bit strange, but a pretty good guy.
I haven't been on Memorial drive in years and won't go, my sons high school, Union Grove is in the same region as Redan and Stephenson and when they play away, I don't go, not even to Panthersville and I work right there on the corner of Panthersville and Clifton Springs, but after work, I get on back home. But Dad built that house from the ground up and has 2 acres there on Rockbridge and just won't move, he's happy though.

Roger, I hope that your restaurants are doing better than mine in these economic times. Congrats on them!! As far as people not showing up for reunions....the price is too high for ordourves (SP?) and a cash bar.
Larry, I'm right down the road from you in Hoschton, and my wife and I own Frank's BBQ, which is in West Jackson Min-E-Shops on Highway 53. In the same strip center is Hoschton Auto and Hardware, West Jackson Pharmacy, Kilpso (beauty shop), and us. Come see us when you can, but call and get our hours before you come. (706) 654-0015 Interesting that you have been a social studies teacher in middle school. I got my middle grades math/science degree from NGCSU in Dec. 2003. Never had my own classroom since the BBQ joint happened. I subbed MANY days at Lanier Middle in Buford, and at Suwanee Elem. Several long term sub jobs at Suwanee in 2nd grade, 4th grade, kindergarten.
Y'all let me know if you want to use our restaurant for a get together. We'd love to host it. We could do anything from hamburgers and hotdogs to BBQ, chicken, stew, and all of the rest. Just let us know....
The last time I went down Memorial Drive, I said was the last time.....LOL
Wes, I saw Stickman and Phillip Bradley (class of 1974 or 5) at a swap meet and car show at Lanier Speedway that we do monthly. It was great to recall old times with the both of them!

I keep jumping between the Blog Dump and Class of 78 for postings.
Frank: My restaurants are all slowed down but we are keeping our heads above water. I am about to begin live trivia nights, Frequent diner award cards, and live music mellow rock (no mariachi crap) I will see how that goes.
I openned a small drive thru restaurant last November and it tanked. I tried openning it as a Fish & Chicken place but it did not make it either. I finally shut it down. I lost my shirt on it. I made some mistakes and wrong assumptions. Live and learn. I plan on going to congress for my bailout.
Wes: Is Clifton Springs near South Dekalb Mall? If It is where I am thinking. I use to live on Rovena Court near the stadium on the otherside of the yellow river until 1969. There use to be an Honor Farm back then for criminals. After they closed it my dad and I would hike the feilds and old barns. If this is not the same location then "never mind".
Your dad may be the smart one. Mike owens told me he thinks the wave is passing through now based on the people he sees shopping at the Publics on the corner of Rockbridge and Harriston. Hang strong and carry a gun.
I have to go my wife bought some chick flix to watch and she wants me home. I should be able to get to sleep quickly tonight.

Yes it is near South Dekalb Mall, things have grown up around there, but that's the place you are thinking, our area is fenced in, but the thugs can still come through if they want, but if they do, they better realize what building they're F'ing with, it's not one to be hanging around. But I spend most days there during the week and sometimes work from home.....can't complain.

I was in town for the Chikfila bowl and hanging out with Mike (possum) Owens. Game really sucked but the beer was cold.
I will try to get back in town soon. Maybe I Mike and I can hook up with everyone. I will email you in advance when I will be coming in.
I just need to wait until Obama is elected so he can pay for my gas to get there. Only about a week more and all our problems will be solved.
See ya soon.

Hi! I'm looking for old classmates from the two years that I attended Stone Mtn. (1979-1980) I ran around with David James, Robbie Garcia and David Butler. I moved to Chattanooga, TN. before my junior year and graduated from Chattanooga Central High in 1982. I did attend the 10 yr. reunion and had a blast. I fondly remember my time at Stone Mtn. as being some of the best times of my life. Cruising Memeorial Dr., going to Oz Records & Tapes and looking for parties on the weekends. I moved from the Stone Mtn. area in 1992 and lived in Cumming and Dawsonville until 2004. I am now living in Boston, MA. but come back to GA. several times a year to visit family and friends.
